Use lubricating artificial tears
Apply a cold compress for 10 to 15 minutes at a time
Avoid rubbing or touching the eye
Rest the eye and limit screen time
Avoid heavy lifting, straining, and intense exercise
Control coughing, sneezing, and vomiting as much as possible
Stop contact lens use until the eye looks normal
Avoid aspirin or blood thinners unless prescribed
Manage high blood pressure if present
Wait for it to heal on its own, usually within 1 to 2 weeks
Seek urgent medical care if there is pain, vision changes, injury, or repeated bleeding
