Shut off the water supply
Dig trenches for the main lines and lateral lines
Install the backflow preventer
Lay and connect the pipes
Install valves in a valve box
Attach sprinkler heads at the marked locations
Connect the system to the water source
Wire the valves to the controller
Flush the lines to remove debris
Test each zone for leaks and coverage
Adjust sprinkler head direction and spray pattern
Backfill the trenches
Program the controller
Monitor the system and make final adjustments
