Feed in a bright, slightly active room
Undress the baby to the diaper or use light layers
Use skin-to-skin contact
Change the baby’s diaper before feeding
Burp the baby when they start to get sleepy
Switch breasts when sucking slows
Gently rub the baby’s back, feet, or hands
Stroke the baby’s cheek or chin
Compress the breast to increase milk flow
Keep the baby in a more upright feeding position
Talk softly to the baby during the feed
Offer the other breast as soon as sucking weakens
Pause to wake the baby if they doze off
Feed more often so the baby is less overly tired
Watch for early hunger cues and start feeding sooner
Avoid overly warm or dark feeding environments
Wake the baby gently with a diaper change or position change if needed
