Feed smaller amounts more often
Keep the baby upright for 20 to 30 minutes after feeds
Burp the baby during and after feeds
Avoid overfeeding
Check bottle nipple flow to prevent swallowing air
Use paced bottle feeding
Keep the baby in a safe sleep position on the back
Avoid placing the baby in sitting devices right after feeding
Try thickened feeds only if advised by a pediatrician
Consider a hypoallergenic formula only if recommended by a doctor
Continue breastfeeding if possible
Eliminate dairy from the breastfeeding parent’s diet only if advised by a doctor
Avoid tight diapers or clothing around the abdomen
Monitor weight gain and feeding tolerance
Seek medical care for poor weight gain, blood in vomit or stool, breathing problems, or persistent vomiting
