Gather baby bath supplies: mild baby soap, soft washcloth, towel, clean diaper, and fresh clothes
Wash your hands
Make sure the room is warm and free of drafts
Fill the tub or basin with a few inches of warm water
Check the water temperature with your wrist or elbow
Keep one hand on the baby at all times
Support the baby’s head and neck
Start by gently washing the face with water only
Clean the scalp and hair with a small amount of baby shampoo if needed
Wash the body from top to bottom
Clean skin folds, neck, underarms, hands, and diaper area
Rinse off any soap completely
Avoid getting water in the baby’s eyes, nose, and mouth
Lift the baby out carefully and wrap in a towel right away
Pat the baby dry, especially in skin folds
Apply diaper and dress the baby in clean clothes
Never leave the baby unattended in the bath
Empty the tub after the bath is finished
