Park the car on a flat surface
Put the car in park or in gear
Set the parking brake
Turn off the engine
Locate the hood release lever inside the car
Pull the hood release lever
Go to the front of the car
Find the hood safety latch under the front edge of the hood
Push or lift the safety latch
Lift the hood
Secure the hood with the prop rod or hood support if needed
