Turn off the power to the ceiling fan at the circuit breaker
Verify the power is off with a voltage tester
Remove the fan blades if needed for easier handling
Remove the light kit or canopy cover if present
Support the fan with one hand or have someone help hold it
Unscrew the canopy from the mounting bracket
Lower the fan carefully to expose the wiring
Disconnect the wire nuts from the fan wires
Disconnect the ground wire
Remove the mounting bracket from the electrical box if needed
Remove any remaining screws or hardware
Cap the house wires with wire nuts
Tuck the wires safely into the electrical box
Install a blank cover if the ceiling box will remain exposed
Restore power only after everything is secured
