Open the door
Remove the interior deadbolt screws
Remove the exterior deadbolt screws if present
Pull off the interior thumb turn or trim plate
Pull off the exterior cylinder or trim plate
Slide the deadbolt assembly out of the door edge
Remove the faceplate screws on the door edge
Lift out the latch or bolt mechanism from the mortise
Remove the strike plate from the door frame if needed
Keep all screws and parts together for replacement or disposal
