How to Remove Contact Lenses with Long Nails?

Wash and dry your hands thoroughly

Use a clean mirror and good lighting

Look up and pull down your lower eyelid with one finger

Use the pad of your fingertip, not the nail, to slide the lens down onto the white of your eye

Pinch the lens gently between the pads of your thumb and index finger

If needed, use the side of your finger instead of the tip to avoid scratching your eye

Keep your nails angled away from the eye

Use a contact lens removal tool if you have trouble gripping the lens safely

Apply rewetting drops if the lens feels stuck

Blink several times to loosen the lens before trying again

Do not use your nails to grab the lens

Do not force the lens if it does not move easily

If the lens remains stuck, stop and contact an eye care professional
