Open the reel’s side plate or spool tension access if needed
Thread the line through the rod guides and levelwind
Tie the line to the spool with an arbor knot or similar secure knot
Close the side plate
Set the spool tension knob lightly
Set the brake system to a low-to-medium setting
Place the line spool on the floor with the label facing up or as recommended by the line type
Apply slight tension to the line with your fingers or a cloth
Turn the reel handle slowly while keeping steady pressure on the line
Fill the spool evenly and avoid overfilling
Stop when the line is about 1/8 inch below the spool rim
Trim the tag end
Check for twists, loose wraps, or uneven line lay
Cast and adjust tension and brakes as needed
