Stop eating or drinking the cold item
Press your tongue to the roof of your mouth
Cover your mouth and nose with your hands and breathe warm air
Drink a small sip of warm water
Move the cold item away from the front of your mouth
Wait a few seconds for the pain to pass
Eat or drink cold items more slowly next time
Take smaller bites or sips
Let very cold foods warm slightly before eating
Avoid gulping ice-cold drinks
Eat cold items with a spoon or straw placed farther back in the mouth
