Look at the distance between the anus and the genital opening
Male kittens usually have a larger gap between the two openings
Female kittens usually have a smaller gap between the two openings
A male cat’s genital opening is round
A female cat’s genital opening is a vertical slit
Male cats may have a scrotum between the anus and penis opening
Neutered males may have a less obvious scrotum
Adult male cats often have broader heads and thicker necks
Adult male cats may be larger and more muscular
Female cats often have a slimmer body shape
Check for testicles in intact males
Lift the tail gently to inspect the area
Compare with a known male and female cat if possible
