Turn off power to the circuit
Discharge the capacitor completely
Remove the capacitor from the circuit if possible
Set the multimeter to capacitance mode
Connect the black probe to COM
Connect the red probe to the capacitance or VΩ port
Touch the probes to the capacitor terminals
Observe the reading on the display
Compare the reading to the capacitor’s rated value
Replace the capacitor if the reading is far outside tolerance or shows no reading
