Apply warm compresses for 10 to 15 minutes, 3 to 4 times a day

Cover the boil with a clean, dry bandage
Wash hands before and after touching the area
Use over-the-counter pain relief if needed and safe for you
Avoid sharing towels, razors, or clothing
Change bandages regularly
See a doctor if the boil is very large, very painful, or keeps returning
Seek medical care if you have fever, spreading redness, red streaks, or swelling
Get urgent care if the boil is on the face, spine, or near the eye
Follow a doctor’s advice if antibiotics or drainage are needed
