Measure the closet width, depth, and height
Decide the shelf locations and spacing
Choose shelf material such as plywood, MDF, or solid wood
Gather tools: tape measure, level, saw, drill, screws, brackets, wall anchors, stud finder, pencil
Mark the shelf height on both side walls
Find and mark wall studs
Cut the shelf boards to the correct size
Sand the cut edges
Install shelf supports or brackets at the marked heights
Secure supports into studs when possible
Add wall anchors where studs are not available
Place the shelf boards on the supports
Check that each shelf is level
Fasten the shelves to the supports if needed
Fill holes, sand, and paint or stain the shelves if desired
Let finishes dry completely before use
Load items evenly across the shelves
