Turn off power to the smoke detector at the circuit breaker if it is hardwired
Twist the detector counterclockwise to release it from the mounting bracket
If it has a wiring connector, unplug the connector carefully
Remove the mounting bracket screws from the ceiling or wall
Take out the batteries if it is battery-powered
If the unit is part of a linked system, notify the system owner or alarm company before removal
Dispose of the detector according to local electronic waste rules
