Apply penetrating oil and let it soak

Clean exposed threads and the surrounding area

Use the correct extractor bit or left-hand drill bit

Center-punch the broken bolt

Drill a pilot hole straight into the bolt

Turn the extractor counterclockwise to remove the bolt

If needed, heat the surrounding metal to help loosen it

Use locking pliers if any bolt remains exposed

Tap the bolt lightly to break corrosion before trying again

Re-drill with a larger bit if the extractor fails

Use a screw extractor kit for stubborn bolts

Weld a nut onto the broken bolt if possible

Cut a slot in the bolt head or stub and use a flathead driver

Re-tap the threads after removal if damaged

Replace the bolt with a new one of the correct size and grade
