Have the person sit quietly with feet flat on the floor and arm supported at heart level
Expose the upper arm and remove tight clothing
Select the correct cuff size for the arm
Wrap the cuff around the bare upper arm, about 1 inch above the elbow crease
Position the artery marker over the brachial artery on the inside of the arm
Make sure the cuff is snug but not too tight, with room for two fingertips under the edge
Keep the cuff flat and evenly wrapped around the arm
Align the tubing so it runs down the center or side of the arm without kinking
Ensure the arm is relaxed and still before taking the reading
