How to Make a Butcher Block?

Choose hardwood boards such as maple, walnut, or oak

Mill the boards flat, straight, and square

Cut the boards to the desired lengths

Arrange the boards in the preferred grain pattern

Apply wood glue to the mating edges

Clamp the boards tightly together

Let the glue cure fully

Scrape or sand the surface flat

Trim the block to final dimensions

Round over or ease the edges

Sand through progressively finer grits

Clean off all dust

Apply food-safe mineral oil or butcher block conditioner

Let the finish soak in and wipe off excess

Repeat oiling as needed
