Preheat the oven to 400°F
Wash the squash
Cut the squash in half lengthwise
Remove the seeds and stringy pulp
Place the squash cut-side down on a baking sheet
Line the baking sheet with parchment paper or foil if desired
Bake for 30 to 50 minutes, depending on the size and type of squash
Check for doneness by piercing the flesh with a fork
Remove from the oven when the flesh is tender
Let the squash cool slightly
Scoop out the flesh or serve as desired
