How To Finish Drywall?

Cover seams and fasteners with joint compound

Apply paper or mesh tape over seams

Embed tape in a thin layer of compound

Let the first coat dry completely

Apply a second wider coat of compound

Let the second coat dry completely

Apply a third finishing coat if needed

Feather edges wider with each coat

Fill screw holes and dents with compound

Sand smooth after each coat dries

Use a sanding sponge or pole sander

Remove dust between coats

Check for ridges, bubbles, and imperfections

Touch up problem areas with compound

Sand the final coat lightly

Wipe down the surface before priming

Apply drywall primer before painting
