Turn off the water supply to the toilet
Remove the tank lid carefully
Put on gloves
Use a plunger to create a tight seal over the drain
Push and pull the plunger firmly several times
Flush to check if the clog is cleared
Repeat plunging if needed
Use a toilet auger if plunging does not work
Insert the auger into the toilet drain
Turn the handle to break up or remove the clog
Flush again to test the drain
Remove excess water if the bowl is too full
Avoid flushing again if the water is rising
Call a plumber if the clog remains
Clean and disinfect the area after finishing
