Bridge is a four-player card game played with two partnerships
Partners sit opposite each other
Use a standard 52-card deck
Deal 13 cards to each player
The game has two main parts: bidding and play
During bidding, players compete to decide the contract
Each bid states a number of tricks and a trump suit or no trump
Players must follow the rules of bidding and can pass, bid, double, or redouble
The highest legal bid becomes the contract
The player who first named the contract suit becomes the declarer
The declarer’s partner becomes the dummy
The dummy places their cards face up on the table after the opening lead
The player to the left of the declarer makes the opening lead
Players must follow suit if they can
If a player cannot follow suit, they may play any card
The highest card of the led suit wins the trick unless a trump card is played
A trump card beats any card of another suit
The highest trump card wins the trick if more than one trump is played
The winner of each trick leads to the next trick
The declarer and dummy try to win at least the number of tricks bid
The defenders try to stop the contract from being made
Count tricks won by each side
Compare the declarer’s tricks to the contract at the end of play
If the contract is met, the declaring side scores points
If the contract is not met, the defenders score points
The side with the higher total score after multiple deals wins the game
