Read the inhaler label and package insert for priming instructions
Remove the cap and check that the mouthpiece is clean
Shake the inhaler well if it is a metered-dose inhaler
Point the inhaler away from your face and other people
Press the canister to release test sprays as directed for that inhaler
Repeat the test sprays until a full mist is seen or the recommended number of sprays is reached
Re-prime the inhaler if it has not been used for the time period listed in the instructions
Re-prime the inhaler if it has been dropped, cleaned, or stored improperly, if the instructions say to do so
Replace the cap after priming
If the inhaler is a dry powder inhaler, follow the device-specific priming steps in the instructions
