Sit or lie down immediately

Drink water if you may be dehydrated
Avoid driving, climbing, or operating machinery
Rest in a quiet, dim room
Stand up slowly when getting up
Try the Epley maneuver if your vertigo is from BPPV and you know how to do it safely
Avoid alcohol, nicotine, and excess caffeine
Eat a light snack if low blood sugar may be a factor
Use prescribed vertigo medication only as directed
Seek urgent medical care if you have chest pain, fainting, severe headache, weakness, numbness, trouble speaking, double vision, or sudden hearing loss
