How to Remove Ingrown Fingernail?

Wash your hands with soap and warm water

Soak the finger in warm water for 10 to 15 minutes, 3 to 4 times a day

Gently lift the edge of the nail with clean dental floss or a small piece of cotton if it is slightly ingrown

Keep the area clean and dry between soaks

Apply an antibiotic ointment if the skin is broken

Cover the finger with a clean bandage if needed

Wear loose-fitting gloves or avoid pressure on the finger

Trim nails straight across and avoid cutting them too short

Do not dig into the nail or cut into the skin

Take over-the-counter pain relief if needed and if safe for you

See a doctor if there is severe pain, swelling, pus, spreading redness, fever, or no improvement

Seek urgent care if you have diabetes, poor circulation, or a weakened immune system
