Turn off the water supply
Plug the drain
Inspect the tub spout for a set screw underneath
Loosen the set screw with the correct Allen key if present
Pull the spout straight off the pipe if it is a slip-on type
Twist the spout counterclockwise if it is a threaded type
Use a strap wrench if the spout is stuck
Gently wiggle the spout while pulling or turning
Remove any remaining plumber’s tape or debris from the pipe
Check the pipe for damage before installing a new spout
