How to Splint a Finger?

Wash your hands

Remove any rings or jewelry

Check for severe deformity, open wound, numbness, or loss of circulation

If any of these are present, seek urgent medical care

Gently straighten the finger only if it moves easily and without force

Place a padded splint, tongue depressor, or straight rigid support along the finger

Keep the injured finger in a natural position

Secure the splint with tape or bandage above and below the injured area

Do not wrap too tightly

Check that the fingertip stays warm and pink

If the finger becomes cold, blue, numb, or more painful, loosen the wrap

Keep the hand elevated

Apply ice wrapped in cloth for 15 to 20 minutes at a time

Avoid using the injured finger

Seek medical evaluation as soon as possible
