How to Wrap a Jammed Thumb?

Wash and dry your hands

Remove any rings or tight jewelry

Rest the thumb in a neutral position

Place a small pad or gauze over any sore or swollen area

Wrap a soft elastic bandage around the thumb and hand

Keep the wrap snug, not tight

Leave the thumb tip visible if possible

Check that circulation is not restricted

Rewrap if the thumb becomes numb, cold, or discolored

Limit movement and avoid using the thumb

Apply ice for 15 to 20 minutes at a time

Elevate the hand when possible

Seek medical care if pain, swelling, deformity, or loss of motion is severe
