How to Treat a Scorpion Sting?

Move away from the scorpion to prevent additional stings

Keep the person calm and still

Wash the sting site with soap and water

Apply a cool compress or ice wrapped in cloth for 10 minutes on, 10 minutes off

Remove rings, watches, or tight clothing near the sting area

Keep the affected limb elevated if possible

Take an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed and safe to use

Monitor for worsening symptoms

Seek emergency medical help immediately if there is trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, severe pain, muscle twitching, drooling, vomiting, confusion, or weakness

Call poison control or a healthcare professional for guidance if symptoms are mild or uncertain

Do not cut the wound

Do not suck out the venom

Do not apply a tourniquet

Do not apply heat or alcohol to the sting

Do not give food or drink if the person is having trouble swallowing or breathing
