How to Treat Jellyfish Sting?

Get out of the water immediately

Call emergency services if the person has trouble breathing, chest pain, fainting, severe swelling, or widespread hives

Rinse the sting area with seawater

Do not rub the area

Remove visible tentacles with tweezers or gloved hands

Rinse the area with vinegar if available

If vinegar is not available, follow local first-aid guidance for the specific jellyfish type

Soak the area in hot water, about 104 to 113°F, for 20 to 45 minutes

Use a cold pack if hot water is not available

Take an oral pain reliever if needed and safe to use

Monitor for worsening symptoms

Seek medical care if pain is severe, symptoms spread, or the sting is from a box jellyfish or other dangerous species
