Turn off the garbage disposal
Unplug the disposal or switch off the circuit breaker
Check the sink for standing water
Use tongs or pliers to remove visible debris
Insert an Allen wrench into the bottom reset slot and turn it back and forth
Press the reset button on the bottom of the disposal
Use a plunger over the sink drain if needed
Pour a small amount of dish soap and hot water into the drain
Run cold water
Turn the disposal on briefly to test it
If it still jams, use a disposal wrench or hex key to free the impellers
Avoid using chemical drain cleaners
Call a plumber if the clog does not clear
