Remove the person from the source of the chemical
Protect yourself with gloves or other barrier if possible
Remove contaminated clothing, shoes, and jewelry
Brush off any dry chemical before rinsing if safe to do so
Rinse the affected area with cool running water for at least 20 minutes
Use plenty of water and keep rinsing continuously
Do not use ice, ointments, or home remedies
Do not try to neutralize the chemical with another substance
If the chemical is in the eyes, rinse with clean water or saline for at least 20 minutes
If the chemical was swallowed, call poison control or emergency services immediately
Seek emergency help for large burns, severe pain, trouble breathing, or burns to the face, hands, feet, genitals, or eyes
Cover the burn loosely with a clean, dry, nonstick dressing
Keep the person warm and monitor for shock
Get medical care as soon as possible after rinsing
Call emergency services if symptoms worsen or the person becomes unresponsive
