Sort through the dry beans and remove stones, debris, and damaged beans
Rinse the beans under cold water
Soak the beans in plenty of water for 6 to 12 hours or overnight
Drain and rinse the soaked beans
Place the beans in a pot and cover with fresh water
Bring the water to a boil
Reduce the heat to a simmer
Cook until the beans are tender, adding water if needed
Season with salt near the end of cooking
Drain the beans if needed and serve or use in your recipe
