Turn the dial clockwise at least three full turns to clear the lock
Stop at the first number of the combination
Turn the dial counterclockwise one full turn past the first number and stop at the second number
Turn the dial clockwise directly to the third number
Pull up on the shackle or release mechanism to open the lock
If the lock does not open, reset the dial and repeat the steps carefully
