Remove the overflow plate screws
Pull the overflow cover off
Lift out the stopper linkage
Unscrew the stopper from the drain rod if attached
Turn the stopper counterclockwise if it is a threaded lift-and-turn type
Pull the stopper straight up if it is a toe-touch type
Press and twist the stopper to release it if it is a push-pull type
Use pliers to loosen it if it is stuck
Clean the drain opening after removal
