Use over-the-counter ear drops made for wax removal
Put a few drops in the ear as directed on the package
Let the drops sit for the recommended time
Repeat for several days if needed
Use warm water to gently rinse the ear in the shower
Tilt the head to let water and wax drain out
Dry the outer ear with a clean towel
Use a bulb syringe with warm water to gently flush the ear
Stop if you feel pain, dizziness, or hearing gets worse
Try mineral oil, baby oil, or glycerin drops to soften wax
Keep the ear dry after softening and rinsing
Do not use cotton swabs, bobby pins, or other objects inside the ear
Do not irrigate the ear if you have a perforated eardrum, ear tubes, or an ear infection
See a doctor if the wax is still blocked after home treatment
See a doctor if you have severe pain, drainage, fever, or sudden hearing loss
