Clean and dry the surfaces where the putty will be applied
Take a small amount of plumber’s putty and knead it in your hands until soft and pliable
Roll the putty into a rope or ball
Place the putty around the underside of the fixture, drain flange, or fitting as needed
Press the part into position so the putty spreads evenly
Tighten the fixture or fitting according to the installation instructions
Wipe away any excess putty that squeezes out
Let the connection sit and check for proper sealing
Do not use plumber’s putty on porous materials or where a waterproof adhesive seal is required
Store unused putty in an airtight container to keep it from drying out
