Deal all cards evenly to all players
Determine the first player, usually the one with the 3 of clubs or the lowest card
On your turn, play one or more cards of the same rank that are equal to or higher than the previous play
If you cannot or do not want to play, pass
Continue around the table until everyone except one player passes
The last card or set played starts a new round
Cards are ranked from low to high, usually 3 through 2
A 2 is often the highest card
Four of a kind or other special combinations may have special rules depending on the group
The player who empties their hand first becomes President
The second player to empty their hand becomes Vice President
The last player to empty their hand becomes the Asshole
In the next game, the President gets the best cards from the Asshole
The Asshole gives their best cards to the President
The Vice President and Vice Asshole may also exchange cards in some versions
