Meet the eligibility requirements
Be at least 18 years old
Be a legal resident of Massachusetts or have a place of employment or practice in the state
Be able to read and write English
Have no disqualifying criminal history or misconduct issues
Complete the Massachusetts notary application
Submit the application to the Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth
Pay the required application fee
Obtain a recommendation from a Massachusetts state senator or representative
Wait for approval from the Governor and the Executive Council
Receive your commission certificate
Take the oath of office
File the oath and bond, if required, with the proper office
Purchase a notary seal and journal
Begin performing notarial acts in compliance with Massachusetts law
Renew your commission before it expires
