Meet Virginia eligibility requirements
Be at least 18 years old
Be able to read and write English
Be a legal resident of the United States
Be a resident of Virginia or regularly employed in Virginia
Have no felony conviction unless civil rights have been restored
Complete the Virginia notary application
Submit the application to the Virginia Secretary of the Commonwealth
Pay the required application fee
Wait for approval from the Secretary of the Commonwealth
Receive your notary commission certificate
Take the oath of office before a circuit court clerk
File the oath and commission with the circuit court clerk
Purchase a notary seal and journal
Begin performing notarial acts in compliance with Virginia law
