Meet New York State eligibility requirements
Be at least 18 years old
Be a New York State resident or have a place of business in New York State
Have no disqualifying criminal convictions
Create an account with the New York State Department of State
Complete the Notary Public application
Pay the required application fee
Pass the New York State notary exam if required
Submit fingerprints if requested
Receive your commission from the New York State Department of State
Purchase a notary seal/stamp
Keep a notary journal if required by your employer or best practice
Renew your commission before it expires
