Peel the pearl onions
Trim the root ends if needed
Boil water in a pot
Add the pearl onions to the boiling water
Blanch for 30 to 60 seconds
Drain and rinse with cold water
Pinch off the skins
Melt butter in a skillet
Add the peeled pearl onions
Season with salt and pepper
Cook over medium heat until tender and lightly browned
Stir occasionally
Serve warm
