How To Do Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation?

Check for danger

Tap and shout to check responsiveness

Call emergency services

Send someone to get an AED

Open the airway

Check breathing for no more than 10 seconds

If not breathing normally, start chest compressions

Place the heel of one hand in the center of the chest

Place the other hand on top

Lock your elbows and keep your shoulders over your hands

Push hard and fast

Compress at a rate of 100 to 120 per minute

Compress to a depth of about 2 inches in adults

Allow full chest recoil after each compression

Give 30 chest compressions

Give 2 rescue breaths if trained and able

Continue cycles of 30 compressions and 2 breaths

Use an AED as soon as it is available

Follow the AED prompts

Continue CPR until help arrives, the person wakes up, or you are too exhausted to continue
