Wash your hands
Clean the area with soap and water
Soak the foot in warm water for 10 to 15 minutes
Sterilize tweezers and a needle with rubbing alcohol
Use tweezers to pull out any visible splinter end
Use the needle to gently lift the skin if the splinter is under the surface
Pull the splinter out in the same direction it entered
Wash the area again after removal
Apply antiseptic ointment
Cover with a clean bandage
Change the bandage daily
Seek medical help if the splinter is deep, broken, infected, or cannot be removed
Seek medical help if you have diabetes, poor circulation, or reduced sensation in the foot
