Wash the area with cool running water
Gently clean with mild soap
Do not rub or scratch the skin
Use adhesive tape to lift visible fibers
Press and peel the tape gently over the area
Repeat with fresh tape if needed
Use tweezers to remove any clearly visible splinters
Sterilize tweezers with rubbing alcohol first
Rinse the skin again after removal
Apply a cool compress to reduce irritation
Use over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream if itchy
Use an oral antihistamine if itching is severe and appropriate for you
Seek medical care if fibers are deeply embedded
Seek medical care if redness, swelling, pus, or worsening pain develops
Seek medical care if fiberglass gets in the eyes, mouth, or large areas of skin
