Pat tuna steaks dry with paper towels
Season both sides with salt and black pepper
Optional: brush with olive oil
Optional: add garlic powder, paprika, or lemon juice
Heat a skillet, grill, or grill pan over medium-high to high heat
Add a little oil to the pan or brush the grill grates with oil
Place tuna steaks on the hot surface
Cook for 1 to 2 minutes per side for rare
Cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side for medium
Avoid overcooking
Remove tuna steaks from heat
Let rest for 1 to 2 minutes
Slice against the grain if desired
Serve with lemon, herbs, or sauce of choice
