Use a refillable butane lighter; most standard Bic lighters are not designed to be refilled
If attempting to refill a Bic-style lighter, gather butane fuel, a small screwdriver or pin, and safety gloves
Make sure the lighter is completely cool and away from flames, sparks, and heat sources
Turn the lighter upside down
Locate the refill valve on the bottom
Press the butane nozzle firmly into the valve
Fill in short bursts
Stop when the lighter feels full or butane begins to leak back out
Let the lighter sit for a few minutes before use
Test the lighter away from your face and body
If the lighter is damaged, leaking, or will not hold fuel, replace it instead
