How to Get a Nose Bleed to Stop?

Sit upright and lean slightly forward

Pinch the soft part of your nose shut with your thumb and index finger

Hold constant pressure for 10 to 15 minutes without checking

Breathe through your mouth

Spit out any blood that drains into your mouth

Apply a cold compress to the bridge of your nose or cheeks

Repeat the pressure for another 10 to 15 minutes if bleeding continues

Avoid blowing, picking, or rubbing your nose for several hours

Avoid heavy lifting, bending over, or strenuous activity for the rest of the day

Seek urgent medical care if bleeding lasts longer than 20 minutes, is very heavy, follows a serious injury, or you feel faint or have trouble breathing
