Choose a planting site with full sun to partial shade
Check that the soil drains well
Measure the mature width of the arborvitae
Space plants according to their mature size
Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and as deep as the root ball
Remove the arborvitae from its container
Loosen circling roots gently
Place the plant in the hole with the top of the root ball level with the ground
Backfill the hole with the removed soil
Firm the soil lightly around the roots
Water thoroughly after planting
Add mulch around the base, keeping it away from the trunk
Water regularly during the first growing season
Avoid overwatering
Protect young plants from strong wind and heavy snow if needed
